Dyspraxia Foundation County Durham

(DFCD)

DFCD - ADULT DYSPRAXIA GROUP.

DFCD's Adult Dyspraxia Service is very new and as such is not yet well developed in the North East.

However we are lucky to have a member of our committee who is willing to take on the role of DFCD's Adult Dyspraxia Contact and move this aspect of the groups work forward into the future.

CONTACT COLIN BATTY 0191.5143624

Colin was born in the 1950's and unbeknown to him until very recently has suffered from Dyspraxia all his life. On realising this he contacted DFCD with a view to helping other Adults/Children with this condition. Colin also suffers from M.E and is therefore well qualified to give help, support and guidence to those who need it.
Colin is more than happy to answer your questions over the phone or meet up with you personally over coffee to chat about the issues that are important to you. It is hoped that over time the Adults Group will grow to be as strong as the Kidz Club. Of couse Adults with Dyspraxia are welcome to attend the monthly support group or contact Tina directly if you prefer.

Colin has spent a lot of time during 2001/2 writing his autobiography about coming to terms with Dyspraxia and some of the other events in his life. He has kindly agreed to donate the proceeds of any sales of the book to the group. If you would like to purchase a copy then please contact Colin or Tina and they will send you one. However we can make a copy available to you to borrow in return for a £5.00 donation. The only proviso is that once you have read it you MUST return it to DFCD, PO BOX 315,DURHAM DH1 2GP

"LOOKING FOR ME"
an autobiography by COLIN BATTY"

Chaper 1 - The First Eleven Years.

In the early hours of the 9th of March 1957, a Mrs Mildred Batty was admitted into Sunderland Maternity Hospital. She was told that the child she was carrying would not arrive until much later in the day and was told to have a bath.

Shortly afterwards(how long I do not know) I decided that I preferred a late breakfast, to a late tea or late supper and was born at twenty to nine. Doctors said I was a "rapid birth". I was born a week early, weighing a little over 5lb.

Dad was not at the birth, good job too, as he doesn't like blood.....

Chapter Two - Gone but not forgotten.

During the 6 week summer Holiday Mam and Keith(my brother) tried to teach me how to fasten laces, how to put a tie on and how to fasten my shirt correctly. In other words to put the right buttons in to the right holes. I still find all three tasks extremely difficult, more so when I am tired.....

If you want to find out more give Colin or Tina a ring and help raise much needed funds for DFCD.
