This site gives information and support to children and adults regarding ADHD or ADD

This group is the national organisation and has information about support groups and local co-ordinators in your part of the country.
Kidsactive is a group focusing on play opportunities for children not just with Dyspraxia but with a wide range of other disabilities. They are active in the North East and would look forward to your call. Sometimes children with Disabilities cannot get access to the normal range of activities other youngsters take for granted so if your child is missing out give them a ring.

Apraxia-Kids is a program of The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA) and includes the Apraxia-Kids website, messageboards, listserv, and monthly internet newsletter. CASANA is a not for profit organisation dedicated to "advocating for each child to have a voice."
The Association's Mission: to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop speech.

The Dyscovery Centre provides a specialist and high quality service using an interdisciplinary approach for individuals with living and learning difficulties such as Development Co-ordination Disorder, Dyspraxia and Dyslexia.
The Centre eliminates the problems of finding different specialists to assist with various aspects of care. In promoting a practical approach to meeting the needs of its clients, it offers assessment, treatment and resources such as equipment, therapeutic activities and literature to best meet the whole needs of the individual at home, achool, work and in the community. The centre is also able to offer follow-up and review services which ensure ongoing support. Packages of care are tailor-made to suit client requirements and individual quotations are provided.

Tina and her husband Paul have been through the Statementing, Tribunal and Benefit systems in Co Durham for their son over the past 10 years and have been successful in getting help for him. Tina will be only too happy to point you in the right direction. However in the meantime the following few sites will certainly help the process. Both Network 81 and IPSEA provide help and personal advice to aid you through the paperwork and could even provide 1 to 1 support at any hearings you may attend.

Network 81 is network of parents working towards properly resourced inclusive education for children with special needs.
The focus is on legislation affecting children with special needs. They are working towards inclusive schooling to meet the needs of all children recognising their right to be pupils amonst their peers, whilst being educated according to their needs.
Statementing and Tribunal matters are therefore very important and Network 81 can help and guide you through the process. Ring 0870.7703306 (mon to fri 10am - 2pm)

IPSEA may also be able to help if you feel your child's needs are not being met, for example:
if you are not happy with the way the school is meeting your child's special educational needs;
if you want the LEA to assess your child, but they refuse;
if the LEA refuse to issue a Statement after assessing your child;
if you want to appeal against a Statement when it is first made or when it is amended;
if the LEA will not put the school you prefer on the Statement;
if you are unhappy with the amount of help your child is being given.
