Dyspraxia Foundation County Durham

(DFCD)

JUMPSTART KIDZ CLUB

This is one of the most successful and well attended groups we hold at DFCD.

The group is held every 2nd Saturday of every month starting at 10.10am and finishing at noon (Except August) at BELMONT COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE ROAD, BELMONT. DURHAM.

Every Month a safe yet stimulating environment is provided so parents and carer's can bring their little darlings!! along to blow off some steam and join in a wide and exiting range of structured and not so structured activities.

Please see below a selection of photos taken at the JUMPSTART KIDZ CLUB. If you wish you can click on the pictures to see an enlarged version.....

ARTS and CRAFTS....

Diana, uses Room 6 at Belmont School in her role as Arts and Crafts teacher. This activity is very popular and usually very messy but well worth while. Every month Diana ensures that a different type of activity is attempted in an effort to encourage the improvement of concentration and dexterity skills vital to a Dyspraxic childs development. Here are some of our members on the computers

COMPUTERS..

In Room 5 we have a range of computers for all ages to use. The room has 2 new computer to use and has internet access (Norton Blocking installed) and all the usual Microsoft programmes for members who want to use basic packages such as WORD, EXCEL and PAINTBRUSH etc. However we also have 3 Laptops that were bought with funding from Awards for All that can be used for games and other more complex work. We have received funding from other sources over the last few years and as a result we have purchased a Playstation1 - Playstation2 and an XBox plus games which are proving very popular. We have a grant in the system which will allow us to purchase 3 more laptops and a stack more games to keep all ages occupied. Butter would'nt melt The Computers are always supervised by Paul and he is always on hand to help out when needed. It is our aim to let the children learn at their own pace because they are usually pressured enough at School during the week so at the weekend they need to be able to learn without any stress. GYM..

We have access to the gym thanks to the Head of Belmont School. Our fully qualified Gym Staff provide many activities such as Football/Hockey/Wobble Boards/Parachutes/Ball Skills etc..all of which should improve the balance skills of the Dyspraxic child. New equipment has been provided over the years by the group and outside funders but we are always on the lookout for more money to replace broken or worn out equipment. If you can help us fund the group or just lend a pair of hands every now and again ring Tina on 0191.3848283 as she will be glad to here from you.
